This is a vintage state made ash tray from the early 1980's.  The ash tray is made from an original NJ School Vehicle License Plate, these ash trays were made by "state workers" in the NJ prison systems.  They are actual license plates, cut down, the corners radiased and the cigarette grooves and ash indentation stamped.  This has never been used as an ash tray.  Since each ash tray is made from a real plate, they are unique and great conversation pieces.  This being a School Vehicle plate adds to the rarity.  This is a great example of Tobacciana or would be a great addition to your vintage license plate, rat rod, speed equipment collection / automobilia.
